Release Notes v1.0.10 - 30 October 2024

On 30 October 2024 we released into production a new version of the PS+ software, this was an enhancement release affecting the 3D viewer and Project management interfaces.

On the 3D viewer, we added a “save snapshot” button to allow you to save your current user view and any measurements that you have added to the project. These will be loaded the next time you open the project. Should you have any changes that you would not like saved, there is a “restore snapshot” button that will remove these measurements and restore the project to the same state as when you last saved. This gives you more control of your project, allowing you to decide which updates are saved for future retrieval. Should you have made any changes to your project and try to close the browser tab, there will be a friendly warning popup that reminds you to save changes if necessary.

Our profile tool has been updated to include various measurement tools and profile adjustment options. Thus, allowing you to more accurately adjust the angle, position and thickness of the section and then take any necessary measurements more accurately.

Another feature that has been added is that should your point cloud contain data that has been classified, the 3D viewer can now use these classifications to colour the point cloud. Included is the ability to show or hide points based on their classification as well as set custom colours for each of the categories.

On the project management side, we have added an option available to our Enterprise customers that allows a quick and convenient method for uploading multiple 3D object files all at once. Should you wish to be included in this beta test program, please reach out to our Support Team.

More detailed information about this release is listed in the sections that follow. We look forward to hearing your feedback on our release and welcome your suggestions for features you want to see added to our system in the future.

Summary of release

  • Save snapshot/Restore snapshot functionality added to 3D Viewer.
  • Warning before leaving 3D viewer when there are unsaved changes.
  • Profile view measurement tools added.
  • Adjustment of profile angle, position and width.
  • Classification values can be used to colour the Point Cloud.
  • Override default classification colours.
  • 3D object (OBJ, PLY) processing and visualization algorithms have been enhanced.
  • Ability to move to Origin and automatically update XYZ offset for OBJ/PLY processing.
  • Enhanced 3D Object uploads (Enterprise feature – contact support to join the beta testing group):
    • Multi-file upload.
    • Directory uploads.
    • Advanced file upload resume process – including after browser close/computer reset.
    • Multi-threaded uploads.

Feature Enhancements / New Functionality

  • The bug preventing the showing of the user’s data usage charts has been fixed.
  • The bug preventing resuming a dataset upload has been fixed.

Bug fixes

  • If the Volume Box selection is rotated away from parallel with the X, Y, Z planes, when converted to a clip, the data downloaded will contain additional points as the bounding box of the rotated volume is used to specify the extents of the clip.

Known issues

  • Planning and development for our next release is already underway.

Future improvements

  • When uploading LAS/LAZ 1.4 files, please ensure that they conform to the specification and that the relevant Coordinate Reference System information is embedded (as this is a mandatory field).
  • We have upgraded our algorithms used to process and display PLY and OBJ 3D objects, this improves the rendering of the objects but may require a quick rebuild of the underlying data structure. Should this be the case, your 3D object will not load in the 3D viewer and you will notice an orange “Loading 3D object” message that pops up at the bottom of the screen which will not disappear. To rectify this, please open the “3D models” tab in your project – click on the PLY/OBJ to open its settings page and then click on the red “Rebuild” button. Should the rebuild result in an error, you can use the “Move origin to center” tick box on the rebuild dialogue which should rectify the error.
