Release Notes v1.0.6 - 11 March 2024

On 11 March 2024 we released into production a new version of the PS+ software, this was an enhancement release affecting the 3D viewer and Project management interfaces.

On the project management side, we expanded the file types that we support for 3D Model imports adding SketchUp (*.SKP), Rhinoceros® 3D (*.3DM) and Autodesk® Inventor® (*.IPT) import options. These new file types can be uploaded using the “3D Models” tab. In the “Point Cloud Datasets” tab, the columns can now be sorted ascending or descending by clicking on the “heading” of each column. This provides better management of project data when there are many records associated, allowing you to be in control of how your data is presented.

In the 3D viewer, we have made enhancements to improve your user experience. Dataset layers are now collapsed by default to help streamline finding the correct dataset when managing projects with many records. Additionally clicking on the dataset name now opens the dataset settings dialogue, then double clicking will center the view on that specific dataset. Default viewer settings have also been tweaked to improve the presentation of the point clouds for new projects uploaded. Another feature that has been enhanced is that after a “crop” has been made, that section can be converted to a “clip” area and downloaded.

For Enterprise customers, we have added advanced file upload capabilities to support “multiple file upload” as well as “directory upload” capabilities. This adds the ability to offer advanced “resume file upload” functionality should a PC reset or the internet disconnect while an upload is in progress. Please contact our Support Team should you like to join the beta test group for this functionality.

More detailed information about this release is listed in the sections that follow. We look forward to hearing your feedback on our release and welcome your suggestions for features you want to see added to our system in the future.

Summary of release

  • New 3D object file types have been added – we now support the importing and viewing of SketchUp (*.SKP), Rhinoceros® 3D (*.3DM) and Autodesk® Inventor® (*.IPT) files.
  • To better improve the user experience, each point cloud dataset can now be opened individually by clicking on the dataset line in the browser. To open the dataset’s settings, click on the “gear” icon.
  • Areas that have been visually cropped can now be converted to a clipped area. Allowing for a LAS file to be downloaded of the selected region.
  • Enhanced point cloud dataset uploads (Enterprise feature – contact support to join the beta testing group):
    • Multi-file upload.
    • Directory uploads.
    • Advanced file upload resume process – including after browser close/computer reset.
    • Multi-threaded uploads.
  • New “smart queue” logic was implemented to enhance impartial priority when multiple datasets are simultaneously processed by the backend system after upload.
  • Table columns are now sortable in the “Point Cloud Dataset” tab. Click the column name to toggle between sorting ascending, descending or revert to default.
  • Dataset Layers in our 3D viewer are now shown as “collapsed” by default in the layers view – this makes navigation easier for your projects that have numerous datasets attached.
  • Default viewing parameters in the 3D viewer have been tweaked to provide a better view of newly uploaded projects.
  • Cleaned up the view of the datasets in the layers for the 3D viewer – clicking on the name shows the settings for the dataset, then, if double clicking the name the viewer is centred on the dataset and the viewer extents match that of the dataset.

Feature Enhancements / New Functionality

  • Cropping now defaults to “hide outside” mode.

Bug fixes

  • Planning and development for our next release is already underway.

Known issues / Future improvements

  • When uploading LAS/LAZ 1.4 files, please ensure that they conform to the specification and that the relevant Coordinate Reference System information is embedded (as this is a mandatory field).
